A recipient of a coveted Wine Capitals of the World award, Vrede en Lust has hosted numerous high-profile guests but it remains an unpretentious home-from-home, with panoramic views; the kind of place that invites you to really unwind. Located in lush Franschhoek, the prettiest of our Winelands' valleys, with the highest concentration of gourmet restaurants in the country, the syberatic pleasures are endless - and right on your doorstep. Aside from the estate's highly ranked wines there is the popular Cottage Fromage, the estate's restaurant/bakery/deli. Old oaks to picnic under, and walking and cycling paths leading through the vineyards to the forested slopes of the Simonsberg, where you can gaze down on the 300-year-old estate - king of all you survey, at least until tomorrow...

The Manor House foundations, laid by Jacques de Savoye, date back nearly 300 years. The Cape Dutch buildings were damaged by fire at the end of the 19th century and significantly restored by Norman Beroldt in the 1950's.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms:
Manor House Sleeps 10: 4 doubles & 1 twin-bedded (plus additional Jonkmanshuis cottages)

The ground floor has two bedrooms (two double) sharing one bathroom.

Upstairs is one twin and two double bedrooms, including the master suite. All share a separate lounge area that leads onto the upstairs deck overlooking the pool house and mountain.

In addition to the Manor House, there are three cottages that form part of the historic Jonkmanshuis, located between the new winery and the Manor House. Each cottage has two en-suite bedrooms (each with double bed and air-conditioned) and offers a comfortable living room with satellite TV.

Living Areas:
The ground floor boasts solid yellow wood floors and 5m high yellow wood ceilings. There is a large reception room, a very spacious lounge with fireplace and home theatre, and formal dining room.

The farmhouse-style kitchen with fireplace invites relaxation and slow-food gourmet sessions, though a personal chef can be arranged should you prefer to be catered for.

Both the lounge and the kitchen open up onto a patio area with stunning views of the Franschhoek valley.

Outdoor:
The Manor House has a private swimming pool with a pool house that features a bar, dining area, bathroom, steam bath, gym and large patio.

Adjacent to the pool house is a large boma where guests can sit gazing into a fire.

Other:
The Manor House is serviced daily. Aside from this, groceries can be purchased on your behalf if needed and washing and dry cleaning is on offer.

LOCAL AREA
You will enjoy a huge selection of restaurants and wine estates within a 20-minute range, including some of South Africa's top rated restaurants. With Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch all in close proximity there is always something to do. Aside from vineyard and cellar tours, there is horse riding (including, for Polo enthusiasts, Val de Vie, just across the river), golf (both Pearl Valley and Paarl golf courses are nearby), fly fishing, cycling, helicopter and 4x4 trips and, of course, spa visits.
